Which Areas Can Be Treated with Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can be done on various body parts, including the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini area, and back. It’s not recommended for use on areas around the eyes (such as eyelashes) due to the potential risk to the eyes.

How Many Sessions Are Required?

Achieving permanent hair reduction typically requires multiple sessions, as hair grows in cycles. Lasers can only target hair that is in the active growth phase, so several treatments spaced out over weeks or months are required. We recommend a minimum of 6 sessions for optimal results. Laser hair removal works best on individuals with light skin and dark hair, as the laser targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair. However, technological advancements have made it possible to treat people with darker skin tones as well.

Are There Any Pain or Side Effects?

While many people find the procedure manageable, some may experience mild discomfort during treatment. The sensation is often compared to a rubber band snapping against the skin. At Southern Grace, we offer numbing creams to minimize discomfort. Common side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as redness, swelling, and slight irritation in the treated area. Serious side effects are rare but can include scarring, pigmentation changes, or blistering, especially if the procedure is not performed correctly.

What is the Treatment Process?

1. Consultation: A thorough consultation with a licensed practitioner to discuss goals, expectations, and medical history.
2. Pre-Procedure Care: You will need to avoid sun exposure, tweezing, waxing, and electrolysis to the treatment area 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Any hair must be in the treatment area directly before treatment.
3. Procedure: The treatment typically takes 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area surface.
4. Post-Treatment Care: Minimal downtime is required. Sun exposure and topical irritants (glycolics, retinols) will need to be avoided in the treatment area, and SPF 30 or higher will need to be worn for 2 weeks. Cold packs and Tylenol may be used for any discomfort.
